Sister Francisca Ngozi Uti, HHCJ, a member of the World Women’s Observatory (WWO) Network and ambassador for the #InvisibleNoMore Campaign, has been awarded the 2024 Opus Prize. The $1 million honour recognizes her groundbreaking work with the Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI) in Nigeria, which she founded 25 years ago dedicated to the social, legal, and political equality of women.
Through CWSI, Uti has implemented over 100 projects, reaching more than 1 million people. Her efforts challenge harmful practices like female genital mutilation and underage marriage, while empowering women and communities with education and skills.
In her acceptance speech, Uti dedicated the award to all those striving for change, particularly women and girls rebuilding their lives.
The Opus Prize celebrates faith-based social entrepreneurs creating transformative solutions for their communities.
From the World Women’s Observatory (WWO) of WUCWO, we proudly congratulate Sister Ngozi on this well-deserved recognition of her incredible work and commitment.
