“The social integration of migrant women and their families in Mexico”

The migration context in Mexico has undergone significant transformation. The year 2025 marked a turning point in understanding human mobility from a different perspective. Mexico ceased to be solely a transit country and became a country of destination (whether temporary or permanent), which has required a shift in the approach to supporting people in situations of human mobility and, consequently, in the work of organisations on the ground.

With the support of the Hilton Foundation, the World Women’s Observatory (WWO), of the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organisations (WUCWO), will have the opportunity to continue the work that it has carried out in Mexico over the past two years. In this new phase, work will be carried out under the project “The social integration of migrant women and their families in Mexico”. This project aims to contribute to the local integration of migrant women and their families through a social intervention model based on listening, evidence, awareness-raising, training, empowerment, and human rights advocacy. It is structured around three main areas: social integration, listening, and advocacy.

This project is designed to be implemented together with organisations belonging to the WWO's network and with WUCWO's organisations in Mexico. For this reason, on February 17, the WWO network in Mexico held its first meeting to present the project and outline the work ahead. The organisation's participation and experience are essential.

Representatives from fifteen organisations — shelters and migrant houses, universities, and civil society organisations — participated by contributing with ideas and sharing the initial lines of social integration work that they have already developed through their institutional experience.

We are confident that this project will bear significant fruit, including, for example, a document identifying key guidelines to support the social integration of migrant women and their families, and a decalogue of good listening practices. All of this will be carried out in close collaboration with grassroots organisations that provide direct support and experience the migration reality on a daily basis.
