The World Women's Observatory (WWO) of WUCWO, through the project "Access to justice for migrant women in Mexico" and in collaboration with the Hilton Foundation, published a call for organisations that are part of the WWO Mexico network to apply for funding to implement projects focused on social justice, access to human rights, the provision and administration of justice, or training on migrant women's rights and access to justice.
In response to the call, WWO received ten project proposals aimed at improving the quality of life of migrant women and their families through community-based strategies, guidance, and support. Each submission is highly valuable and reflects the strong commitment of the participating organizations to migrant women, while also highlighting the diversity of their work.
The projects were initially evaluated by the WWO team, with the support of Corporativa de Fundaciones as an external and final evaluator. In accordance with this process, two finalists were selected to receive the two WWO grants available for this occasion.
One of the beneficiary organisations is Sin Fronteras IAP, located in Mexico City. Its project aims to provide comprehensive and sustainable support to migrant women and women subject to international protection who are in vulnerable situations in Mexico City. They are of diverse ages and backgrounds, many of them accompanied by their children, heads of households or caring for elderly adults. These women face multiple challenges, such as lack of access to basic services, legal obstacles and economic difficulties. The project, which will run for five months from May to October 2025, seeks to meet their essential needs and facilitate their integration through four key areas: 1) Humanitarian assistance; 2) Comprehensive support with a psycho-legal approach; 3) Access to livelihoods; and 4) Advocacy and communication for integration. They seek to provide comprehensive and sustainable support to migrant women and those entitled to international protection in vulnerable situations in Mexico, covering their essential needs for humanitarian assistance, legal and emotional services, and access to livelihoods, thus ensuring that they have the resources and opportunities necessary to overcome the barriers they face and facilitate the construction of a dignified and self-sufficient life. The requested budget is for equipment, materials and supplies, and staff payments.
When sharing the news with the organisation, they commented:
Thank you for joining us in our work to benefit women, adolescents and girls on the move. At Sin Fronteras, we are convinced that investing in them means investing in a world that is more humane, more just, and at peace
The second beneficiary organisation is Espacio Migrante, located in Tijuana, Baja California, in northern Mexico. Its main objective is to work hand in hand with migrant women and girls to fight for their rights, create safe and dignified spaces to build community, and provide them with tools and support to fulfil their basic human rights. The project also focuses on developing language skills that empower them to exercise those rights, and on improving access to and retention in the education system for migrant children and adolescents. The overall aim is to promote linguistic and educational justice, ensuring that migrant women and girls can fully realise their rights in Mexico.
This project places a strong emphasis on providing migrant women and girls with the tools they need to understand and exercise their rights. With a focus on justice and racial equity, it aims to support those who do not speak Spanish by helping them develop the language skills necessary to access their rights and integrate into life in Mexico. Through rights education, community meetings, and discussion circles, the aim is to train migrant women and girls to learn about their rights and take part in advocacy work to bring about social change. The requested budget is intended to cover staff costs (community educators).
Upon receiving the news, the organisation shared the following with us:
"Thank you very much, we are very excited to receive this recognition"

The WWO team is very happy to collaborate with organisations such as Sin Fronteras and Espacio Migrante. We believe in their work, in the activities and strategies they will implement, and in their commitment to supporting migrant women from their different contexts.
